I haven't written in awhile and that's partially because I've been working on switching from Wordpress to Blogger. I've wasted several hours trying to get my Wordpress blog to look anything like I wanted it to and I always failed miserably. It's not the most customizable blog service if you don't remember your college Web Design courses in CSS and HTML (which I really, REALLY don't, sorry Mr. Stanek). However, I've also been having trouble getting this site figured out too and wasted several more hours trying to make it look like I wanted it to. But, finally, as you can see, I got it the way I wanted! I'm very nit-picky about designing things so although I don't feel like it's perfect, I like it better than the stark black and white of my Wordpress blog. I made the header myself, thank you very much, although soon (HOPEFULLY) I'll have to edit it so the bird doesn't have a big preggo belly anymore!
I'm 37 weeks today, which is technically full term. Supposedly, I can give birth anytime with a reasonable expectation that the baby would be just fine - so, hopefully, Riley gets the message and makes his way out! I'm starting to get really uncomfortable getting around. I haven't been able to find any maternity pants that are both attractive and in my size so I'm stuck with a butchered version of some old pants that fall down all the time. Sometimes I think maybe clothes manufacturers assume everyone over a certain size is ugly anyway, so they don't need fashionable clothes. Over a size 14/16? Even though you're pregnant? Well, then, you must be old and interested in clothing patterns which are roughly on par with how a parachute is designed. Have a good time being frump-tastic!
Maternity clothes are notoriously ugly anyway, in my O, but there are some good stores for those pregnant women who are lucky enough to have only gained weight in the belly area. Excuuuuuuse me for adding a couple inches in the bust and butt areas, but I've got a BABY inside of me.
Speaking of, I may have had a baby inside of me for about the last 9 months, but it really started hitting me in the past few weeks now he's almost full-sized. I mean, I've held babies that are the size of my gestational tenant! Knowing a human is growing inside you when you can't feel it is hard to believe. When you start to feel little bumps and kicks, it's cute. But when you can see the outline of your baby's back protruding from your abdomen, it all starts to really seem impossible - but wonderful at the same time.
A couple weeks ago, a friend from church - a dude - asked me what it was like to have a baby inside of my body. Wasn't it weird? I thought about it and I think the thing is it's SO weird that it's not weird anymore. We talked about this in AP Lit/Comp in high school when we read Slaughterhouse Five because there's a part of the book that says in war you have to abandon all the normal rules of every day life, like not killing people, etc., and adopt a new reality. Being pregnant is kind of like that - a whole new reality. It lasts so long, though, I'm wondering how weird it will be to adapt to life once the baby is born. Being able to lay on my stomach, or even fit through the shower door without contorting my body in all sorts of fascinating positions may take me by surprise.
The nursery is almost done, we're just waiting for the dresser/changing table and crib set. My darling husband was home when the crib arrived yesterday and put it together to surprise me. Unfortunately, I was really looking forward to doing it together so when I got home and saw the crib I burst into tears. Poor Ryan imagined I was going to walk in and throw my arms around him in thanks and joy that our crib was all ready. Instead, I collapsed into sobs like I had missed the birth of our child. After I recovered and realized how much I hate putting furniture together and how much Ryan and I fight when we do it together, I started to feel awful for doing that to him. He was just trying to be nice!! So this is my public declaration of thanks to Ryan, my lovely, adorable, wonderfully helpful hubs, Ryan. I'll post some pictures when the nursery is done. I'm hoping the baby will come EXACTLY at the moment we finished setting it up, so I'm praying the dresser is delivered soon!
