Weekend Shennanigans

Every week, just before the weekend, I start to develop delusions of grandeur for my plans. I think of all the things Ryan and I could do with the spare time. Running of and having a road trip adventure to somewhere unknown. We could just get in the car and pick a direction and start going. But, I don't like to be in the car too long and we've basically been everywhere within an hour radius of Springfield. So then I think we could go hiking in the woods and discover a cave or a secret passageway. But then I remember I hate exercise and spelunking.

By Friday afternoon at work, I usually resign myself to my usual weekend - dinner out once or twice at the same three restaurants, movies at home, grocery shopping on Saturday afternoon, church, and lots of snuggles in between. Sometimes I get down that we don't do anything special or adventurous, but I secretly love it.

This weekend was pretty much the same as every other weekend, except for the fact that Ryan didn't sleep on Friday. He fell asleep in the early evening and boredom overtook me. I forced him to wake up at 8 and we were off to a true adventure of getting gas and McDonald's for dinner. On the way home, we took a detour to the dollar store for more inexpensive Christmas fodder. While we were shopping, Ryan called me over to show me this:

This stuffed animal was hanging on a sign and at first we both thought it was a monkey. Then Ryan turned it sideways. We stared in bewilderment, speechless for a moment. "Wha...?" Ryan said. "It's a...it seems to be a ...." "A sheep. It's a sheep," Ryan said. It was true. It didn't have any hooves, but it's oblong body was covered with a soft, fuzzy imitation of wool. It seems that at the dollar store factory, they don't really pay attention to which heads they sow on to which bodies. Case in point:

rhino sheep?
.... giraffe?
This is my favorite. How can you make a stuffed giraffe and not even give it a little neck? Even for a dollar, this is a rip off. Neck's are worth at least 50 cents, so I would hope this was on discount.

Although the sheep-hybrid stuffed animals were pretty much the biggest adventure Ryan and I had this weekend, we did buy a couch! We've had a futon since we graduated college and when I got my Christmas bonus, I said enough was enough. We went to Furniture Factory Outlet where they have great deals - but horrible salesmen. They hover and pressure you worse than a used car salesmen. We went to two separate stores, and the salesman at the second store wouldn't leave us alone. When we told him we would have to think about the couch he basically yelled at us. I could tell he thought we were a waste of time. So we went to other store and bought the couch there.

It looks almost exactly like this, but replace the Zebra photos with orange pillows. We're having it delivered tomorrow and we're super excited!

Well, that was my weekend and now I have to go watch Celebrity Sex Rehab. I just wish there were salesmen at the dollar store. It would have been fun to hear the neckless-giraffe pitch.
