Once I found a comedy album by Bob Newhart, who I always considered to be more of a straight man, in the comedic sense. I was interested to see what kind of stand-up he could produce. Sadly, the album broke before I got to listen to it.
I also found things like an album with Inna Godda Da Vidda on it, and others I can't remember. Something about records were enchanting to me - either that or I thought being into records when they were so far before my time made me super cool.
Once I found a box set of two records called Really Rosie, which included a song I loved called "Chicken Soup with Rice." I went home and played the record and fell in love. I wore that thing out. With such classics as "Pierre" and "Screamin' and Yellin'" how could you not be in love? The musical is based on several books by Maurice Sendak with Carol King providing the musical backdrop for a silly romp through the lives of five Brooklyn kids bored in the summer.
I've since misplaced the records in multiple moves, but recently I thought of it again and can't get it out of my head. Check it out, you will not be disappointed - unless you don't like musicals...or Carol King, or children singing. Anyway, you should just check it out.
